Chandeliers in the Outdoors
August 18, 2008
One of my favorite ways to create a touch of elegance for outdoor weddings is the use of chandeliers. You can hang them in trees for the ceremony, under a rustic overhang for cocktail hour or inside a restored barn for the reception.
They add just a bit of elegance without being too stuffy, add interest to the ceiling and improve the ambiance with their soft lighting. For couples on a budget or wanting a non-traditional feel, there are all types for all price ranges, tastes and colors! For inexpensive ones try Ikea or Shop Wild Things. Here are a few pictures to inspire you…

that’s a very pretty idea! i want to have those at my weddinG!!!!!!!
These are GORGEOUS! I’ve such a thing for chandeliers… the wedding that the first photo in the middle is from is my absolute dream wedding!
I absolutely love chandeliers in general…and when added to a wedding it gives it a spectacular feel to the whole event. Great idea…
So chic, romantic~ I just love soft lighting and chandeliers. Very inspiring.
These are very beautiful options for an outdoor wedding. I just attended an outdoor wedding along Lake Michigan and this would have been a fantanstic possibility for them.
I have such a love affair with chandeliers… I have this wonderful book called The History of the Chandelier that I flip through for inspiration. Great post. I love the idea of having something so refined and elegant amongst something rustic and unpredictable!
What a beautiful idea. I love your pictures to show how versatile they can be to create different moods.
Love the red glass!
I love this idea—especially with candles. For a do-it-yourself eco option a friend of mine made chandeliers and used recycled glass jars (from jelly, mustard, etc.) as glass covers for the candles. It added such a romantic ambiance to her rehearsal dinner.
So romantic!

Looove this! There is such a huge sense of romance when you look at these pictures, totally creates a mood.
Chandeliers really add that extra romantic touch to any space!
Maybe this is a stupid question, but how do you light them up outdoors? Extension cord? No-flame candles?
Great question. The answer really depends on the chandeliers that you’re using and the location where you’re putting them. Ideally, you’d be able to plug them into an extension cord. But if not, then I definitely recommend battery-operated votive candles.
