Summer Wedding Inspiration

Posted by SarahAug 06, 2015

Guess what? Paperless Post asked us to share some of our favorite summer wedding inspiration with you to potentially inspire future designs!

As simple as it may sound, there is no better inspiration for a summer wedding than summer itself. Summer – or l’ete as the French call it – means picnic baskets and lemonade and days by the pool. It means fresh fruit at the farmer’s market and this summer we’re all about taking inspiration from our citrus cravings. From half-orange sorbets and lemon-filled vases to watermelon canvas totes to fit welcome gifts for guests, we can’t get enough of all that juicy Vitamin C. It’s fresh, fruity, fun, and can be spun anyway you want. And the fact of the matter is? No one does color better than nature herself.

It’s a midsummer night’s dream and we’re looking toward the fragrant bohemian notes of Scandinavia. Think lush flower crowns of dark blooms and milky leaves, and exquisite white gowns of hand-embroidered lace and tiny beads. Envision flower walls of white chrysanthemum and pink peonies and layered cakes topped with strawberries as red as the rose. There is something magical and mesmerizing about this ethereal contrast of dark and light – and we can’t get enough!

Scandinavia

We love the idea of old-school romance, but it doesn’t hurt to take a few ideas from our times. It is the twenty-first century after all! We’re talking about wedding sites for your guests (go green on the RSVP?), and cell phone charging stations (those electronics need some fuel too!). We mean Fujifilm instant cameras for a guestbook and #hashtags for the big day.

These are just a few of our 2015 summer favorites! What are yours?

Destination Weddings: Spotlight on Maine

Posted by SarahMay 21, 2015

Our amazing planner, Sarah Glick, recently took a trip to Maine hosted by the The Greater Portland Convention and Visitors Bureau. While there, she got to check out a number of charming wedding venues. All the highlights of her trip are detailed below!

The first stop on the trip was the Nonantum Resort, a gorgeous resort that sits right on the coast of Kennebunkport, ME. Along with a number of beautiful options for wedding spaces, the resort offers an adorable trolley to take guests to and from the after party bar down the street!

The next stop on the tour was the Westin Portland Harborview. This hotel is a fantastic option for the couple who wants to get married in Maine but still wants a modern feel. The rooms are sleek and urban but still have waterfront views. One of the highlights of being in Portland was getting to go on a Land and Sea Tour. Getting an up close view of a lighthouse was fun! While in Portland, the group also stopped at the Regency Hotel. If you are looking for a more central location in Portland for your venue, this hotel is the perfect choice!

Next, the group stopped to enjoy the view at Point Lookout Resort. This waterfront venue overlooks Penobscot Bay. Guests stay in quaint, rustic cabins and the view from their most popular ceremony space is unparalleled.

Following a full day of venue scouting, the group made a stop at Café Miranda in Rockville, ME. They work with nearby farms to make sure everything they serve is local and fresh. Their dedication to quality definitely shines through – the food was absolutely delicious and they have an extensive menu with over 150 options so everyone can find something they love!

The next day, we headed to French’s Point. This gorgeous estate is located in Stockton Springs, ME and it’s the perfect spot for couples looking for the full wedding weekend experience. When you book a wedding here, the estate is exclusively yours for the weekend, giving it the true destination feel. You can bring in your own caterer and there are several outdoor ceremony sites including a permanent tent for ceremony or reception. They also have the cutest farmhouse right next door for your guests to stay in!

The final venue of the trip was the Black Point Inn. This venue is located on Prout’s Neck, right outside of Portland. This venue truly has it all. From stunning views of Mt. Washington to a nearby beach and cliff walk, the hotel has a true New England vibe. They even keep their fireplace burning year round for an extra cozy element!

Finally, one of the most fun parts of the trip was getting to partake in one of Art Night Out’s art parties. Their jewelry class would definitely be a perfect event for a bachelorette party!

The best part? Making new friends while getting to see some of the most spectacular parts of Maine!

Recent Favorites: Fun Wedding Food

Posted by SarahMar 27, 2015

Food is always a crowd pleaser. Here is just a sample of some food highlights from our recent clients.

Pretzels with labels that said “Kim and Bill tied the knot,” jars of locally made honey with tags saying “Love is Sweet,” a giant periodic table of macarons and test tubes with candied sunflower seeds for a couple who work as scientists and gourmet ice cream sandwiches with edible labels.

Destination Weddings: Spotlight on the Andaz Peninsula Papagayo Resort, Costa Rica

Posted by SarahMar 19, 2015

Sarah Glick, our wedding planner, recently had the pleasure of visiting the tropical Andaz Peninsula Papagayo Resort in Costa Rica. The resort is brand new and it definitely shows! Guests can choose to relax in the sun at one of the two gorgeous infinity pools (one of which is adults only) or at the hotel’s black sand beach. One of the most impressive services the resort offers is a sunset shuttle. As the resort is East-facing allowing only for sunrise views, they offer a complimentary shuttle to a nearby hotel for guests who would also like to enjoy the sunset. This service shows how meticulously every detail of the resort’s guests’ stays has been through through.

For the active traveler, the resort has an array of watersports, all of which are complimentary. Feeling more adventurous? There is everything from zip lining to horseback riding all within 20 minutes of the resort. The Andaz also features three restaurants the highlight being Chao Pescao, Small Plates & Bar. The menu features Latin-inspired fare, a cocktail list written by the in-house mixologist and live music on Tuesdays and Saturdays. The mixologist is also available for private or group classes!

With such fabulous attention to detail, the Andaz Papagayo would play host to an absolutely stunning wedding. The resort features an array of venues including a private garden and three open-air restaurants overlooking the water. In the case of a buyout of the resort, you can even have the ceremony in the lobby, which features a runway-style aisle! This resort is a truly spectacular venue for anyone considering a destination wedding. To read more about their venues, services, and menus click here.

Destination Weddings: Spotlight on The Westin Grand Cayman

Posted by SarahJan 07, 2015

I recently got to experience a press trip to the stunning Westin Grand Cayman Seven Mile Beach Resort & Spa. The resort’s prime location, on the widest part of 7 Mile Beach, and recent major renovation, make it a serious contender for the best resort on the island. Upgrades to the resort included the creation of a killer pool and hot tub and chic cabanas on the beach that stay light throughout the night. If you enjoy a more active vacation, the resort also has an array of watersport rentals available. Essentially, the Westin Grand Cayman has all the amenities of a high-end luxury resort with a much more laid back vibe. The best news? There are non-stop (3.5 hour) flights from New York City available every day of the week! Whether you are looking for the perfect destination wedding location or a luxurious honeymoon spot, the only question is, what are you waiting for?

Why In-house Destination Venue Coordinators Love Us

Posted by SarahSep 12, 2014

Riviera Maya Wedding, Destination Wedding, Beachfront Wedding

A big question we receive from prospective clients is “My venue offers an on-site wedding coordinator, so do I really need a wedding planner, too?” The short answer, which most on-site venue coordinators would agree with, is “Yes!”. Why? The long answer is twofold:

1) A planner from NYC knows what your expectations are from all standpoints – a service perspective (example: a full open bar is standard in Manhattan and so is having table-side entree choice, whereas these things won’t be standard at hotels outside NYC), a formalities perspective (the different cultural or religious requirements, or what is traditional for speeches, etc.), and even down to a granular perspective like the general style of music that you’d expect. Having someone who understands 100% what you expect from the get-go is key to pulling off a successful destination wedding. In-house venue coordinators are typically grateful to have a liaison to communicate these needs and wants clearly, resulting in less stress and frustration for both parties.
2) the venue’s expertise lies in running stellar food and beverage service, not necessarily running all of the specifics of a wedding. Having a wedding planner from outside the resort allows them to focus on what they do best — food and beverage — whereas we focus on the rest…design, decor and all of the other details means that we have our “aces in their places” and you get the wedding you dream of with less stress and more fun.

With Central Park as the backdrop, Le Parker Meridien Hotel provided the perfect location for a beautiful breakfast that joined together wedding industry pros with media experts.   I’m proud to be a Board Member of Wish Upon a Wedding New York.  Wish Upon a Wedding is an organization that makes it possible for couples facing terminal illness or other serious circumstances to have a dream weddings or vow renewal through the generosity of donations from local wedding professionals. With 60 wishes already being granted nationwide, we hosted a breakfast to share our successes and forge new partnerships.  We were especially honored to have famed designer Nicole Miller speak about how terminal illness has touched her life and her support for Wish Upon a Wedding.  If you’d like to donate to couples in need, please contact newyorkvolunteer@wishuponawedding.org.
