Gifts for Your Girls and Groomsmen

Posted by SarahMar 02, 2016

If you’re a summer bride looking to spice things up for your wedding party, you may be starting to think of unique gifts to your bridesmaids or groomsmen.  Lucky for you, the experts at Brilliant Event Planning have found some of the trendiest items for gift giving. Whether you’re popping the question or sharing a special day-of touch, we’ll show you how to ‘wow’ your wedding party!

How Charming

Who said girls can’t have a little fun with ‘proposing’? Ladies, if you’re looking to bring a smile to your bridesmaid-to-be’s face, try giving her a custom charm necklace or bracelet. Every time your lucky lady looks at this special gift, she’ll think of the bond you two share and of course about your wedding day!  For the grooms, we suggest a gift that makes their best men and groomsmen recognizable by all the rest of the wedding.  We especially love these “Best Man” monogramed cufflinks, which come in many labels, including “Father of the Bride” and “Usher”.

Perfect in a Pinch

A great gift for wedding party guests that is both cute and functional is a customized cosmetic bag, available from many pricy brands and artisan shops.  However, our favorite pouches for the wedding party to be able to use on your wedding day are these ‘minimergency’ kits by Pinch Provisions. Perfect for any day-of mishaps or traveling needs.  They even come in Bride, Bridesmaid, and Groom versions; oh and did we mention you can even build your own custom kit on their website?  With so many colors and iconic charms, you can’t go wrong!

Bring on the Bubbly!

Your wedding party has no doubt been working very hard to make your special day the absolute best, why not reward them with a cocktail or two?  There are many websites that offer customized champagne labels for the ladies, including ones that ask “Will you be my bridesmaid?” For the men we suggest customized flasks or mugs, with each man’s name on it and perhaps your wedding date.  Both gifts leave a lasting impression, and ensure your wedding day is off to a great start.

Sweep them off their feet

On your wedding day, you and your girls will be dressed to the nine’s, we’re guessing with some sky-high shoes included — but every girl knows just how great it feels to kick off her heels at the end of a long day.  Brides, give the gift of comfort and try providing these packable, wearable flats for your bridesmaid to change into during the receptions, we bet they’ll be thanking you later.  For the groomsmen, we love the idea of having all members wear the same socks, that the groom has personally picked out! The labels are customizable, and the matching scheme makes for adorable wedding photos.

Your wedding day is all about having fun and celebrating with the people you hold most near and dear.  Show your special someone’s your appreciation with a one-of-a-kind gift, we promise your own personalization of whatever gift you choose will make for a truly *brilliant* affair.

Hey there bride-to-be’s, expecting rain on your wedding day? Don’t fret! Successful events start with thinking ahead, and we at Brilliant Event Planning can show you just how to do that!

Have a Plan

If you’re planning an outdoor wedding, it’s important to have a backup that is both thoughtful and feasible.  Before you even sign the contract with your venue, make sure that your Plan B can be executed by your venue, and is a scenario that honors the vision of your big day.  When rain pours down, it’s very possible that your Plan B will quickly become Plan A, make sure it’s something you love!

Know When to make the Rain Call

Weather forecasts can often be fickle, making it difficult to know when you should move your outdoor ceremony indoors.  Most assume that you can make the Rain Call within a half hour before the start of the ceremony, but this can lead to all kinds of problems with vendors: florists and rental companies need to know in advance where to set up, and some may even require a 24-hour advanced notice.  Check with your vendors and set a deadline for yourself for when to make the call, and be ready to stick to it!

Say Cheese!

Whether you have to move your location from outdoors, or already planned an indoor wedding, keep in mind that rainfall does stop. If you’re feeling adventurous, snag those few minutes of sunshine and take some outdoor wedding photos that are sure to be memorable.

Bring the Rainwear

If you know in advance that your wedding day forecast calls for a drizzle, perhaps you’ll want to go ahead with the outdoor ceremony and add a twist!  Surprise and delight your guests with rain boots and umbrellas as unique wedding favors, that are both useful and adorable!

Whatever your preference may be for your big day, don’t the let weather put a damper. Take control and plan ahead, and you’re sure to have a truly *brilliant* wedding!

Preserving Your Bouquet from the Big Day!

Posted by SarahJan 29, 2016

One question we get asked a bunch at Brilliant Event Planning is how brides can best preserve their wedding bouquets. Some clients may choose to go with a professional service to flash freeze their bouquets, while other brides opt for at-home methods. Brilliant Event Planning shares their advice on choosing the perfect method.

Recently Updated

There are several advantages to choosing to flash freeze your bouquet.  This method, while time-consuming, leaves your flowers looking as fresh as the day you carried them down the aisle. The freezing process done by a professional typically takes about two weeks time, but can take longer if you purchase a mounting or display package.  This option starts at a cost of about $200, and can run up to as much as $500 depending on the mounting package.  Once deciding to go with the flash freezing method, professionals recommend sending your bouquet in immediately after the wedding day.  In order to ensure the freshest possible flowers, arrangements for your bouquet to be flash frozen should be made in advance of the wedding date.  If you are not able to deliver your bouquet to be frozen immediately after the wedding date, cut an inch off of all the stems and place your flowers in the refrigerator until you can deliver them to the freezing service.

For our clients, we recommend our favorite company to use for professionally freezing our brides’ bouquets: Freeze Frame It!

Hiring a service to flash freeze your bouquet has the benefit of having trained professionals product you’re sure to love!  The drawback is that this option can become costly quickly. For crafty brides on a budget, we suggest DIY preserving with silica gel.  While the traditional method has long been to air dry flowers, this often leaves bouquets turning brown and brittle, with little resemblance to their original beauty.  With the silica gel method, your bouquet will look good as new!  All you’ll need to get started is a large box, Activa Silica Gel, and your bouquet! Check out the full tutorial here.

A Brilliant Wedding: Angelique and Joe

Posted by SarahAug 24, 2015

Last summer we had an incredible time designing Angelique and Joe’s wedding! On August 2nd, the lovely pair were married at the Glen Island Harbour Club in a beautiful outdoor tent ceremony.

The incredible white floral arrangements from Arcadia Floral, as well as the beautiful natural backdrop of the Glen Harbour Club set in New Rochelle, New York, made for a stunning scene that wowed guests from start to finish.

The happy couple started off the fun outdoors popping a bottle of champagne. They made sure the guests joined in on all the good times too! Fun signage in the powder rooms encouraged guests to get back on the dance floor.

The merriment continued throughout the night with gorgeous candles and place settings in the club. Family and friends danced the night away with the happy newlyweds!

Summer Wedding Inspiration

Posted by SarahAug 06, 2015

Guess what? Paperless Post asked us to share some of our favorite summer wedding inspiration with you to potentially inspire future designs!

As simple as it may sound, there is no better inspiration for a summer wedding than summer itself. Summer – or l’ete as the French call it – means picnic baskets and lemonade and days by the pool. It means fresh fruit at the farmer’s market and this summer we’re all about taking inspiration from our citrus cravings. From half-orange sorbets and lemon-filled vases to watermelon canvas totes to fit welcome gifts for guests, we can’t get enough of all that juicy Vitamin C. It’s fresh, fruity, fun, and can be spun anyway you want. And the fact of the matter is? No one does color better than nature herself.

citrus

It’s a midsummer night’s dream and we’re looking toward the fragrant bohemian notes of Scandinavia. Think lush flower crowns of dark blooms and milky leaves, and exquisite white gowns of hand-embroidered lace and tiny beads. Envision flower walls of white chrysanthemum and pink peonies and layered cakes topped with strawberries as red as the rose. There is something magical and mesmerizing about this ethereal contrast of dark and light – and we can’t get enough!

Scandinavia

We love the idea of old-school romance, but it doesn’t hurt to take a few ideas from our times. It is the twenty-first century after all! We’re talking about wedding sites for your guests (go green on the RSVP?), and cell phone charging stations (those electronics need some fuel too!). We mean Fujifilm instant cameras for a guestbook and #hashtags for the big day.

These are just a few of our 2015 summer favorites! What are yours?

A Brilliant Wedding: Anna & Christopher

Posted by SarahJul 08, 2015

Designing Anna and Chris’ gorgeous winter wedding was nothing short of fun! The happy couple was married at University Club in late December of last year. The bride, dressed to perfection in a strapless beaded gown, stunned their guests as she walked down the aisle to “Jurassic Park”. In order to include family and friends in their ceremony, each guest received their own breaking glass and joined the happy newlyweds in the tradition of breaking the glass!

Later, as guests entered the reception space, they marveled at the custom table numbers, that Anna’s dad sketched by hand just for their wedding! The bride and groom shared their first dance to an acoustic version of Avicii’s “Wake Me Up”, which artfully faded into the real deal, bringing guests onto the dance floor.

After dancing much of the night away, the guests and bridal party continued their festivities with a champagne pour and enjoyed specialty desserts from famous restaurants around the city! The end of the night didn’t disappoint either – each guest received a tiny bouquet of flowers, hand-wrapped with a custom sticker, as they made their way to the after party. Congratulations Anna and Chris!
